During the late days of February, I had the honour of serving as fixer and guide to the Norwegian writer and speaker Jakob Semb Aasmundsen. Jakob regularly writes a column for the newspaper Tønsbergs Blad, and he is also a speaker at Athena publishing. He actively speaks against prejudice and is currently writing a book on sexuality. You can check him out on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/jakobsembaasmundsen/?hl=en
The nature of his visit to Japan was to gather material for the aforementioned book. From what I understood Jakob is trying to write a book on sexuality based on a very personal narrative. While we as readers are certain to get a look at a playful and exciting world, Jakob also writes engagingly on such serious topics as loneliness, pornography and gender equality.
We had a very good time together with enlightening conversation and new experiences aplenty. We visited girls bars, pornographic comic book stores, a maid cafe and a gay shot bar with a drag show among other places. I don’t think I would have investigated all of these places on my own initiative, so it was a good opportunity to get out of my comfort zone. I wish Jakob success with his book and look forward to looking back at our adventures, beer in hand, after it is published.
